Brief: Complete garden overhaul, outdoor dining, multiple seating areas, retained lawn, privacy screening, year-round enjoyment
With the clients' children grown up, this long-neglected garden was ready for a new chapter. The brief was to create a more sophisticated and inviting outdoor space that would make the most of the garden throughout the day, while retaining a lawn and strengthening its connection to the surrounding landscape.
We completely reimagined the layout, introducing a series of distinct yet connected spaces designed to follow the sun. A welcoming terrace close to the house provides space for dining and entertaining, while a secondary seating area at the rear of the garden offers a peaceful spot to enjoy the last of the evening light. Together, these spaces create opportunities for everything from a morning coffee to relaxed evenings with family and friends.
Planting and trees play a central role in the design, helping to screen neighbouring properties while drawing the eye towards the mature tree canopy beyond. By making the most of this borrowed landscape and introducing additional structure and planting, we created a garden that feels calm, established and deeply connected to nature, with a relaxed atmosphere that can be enjoyed from morning coffee through to evening drinks.
